“Deep garnet-purple colored, it reveals a beautiful floral nose of roses, lavender and lilacs with a core of kirsch, blackcurrant pastilles, black cherries and warm plums with wafts of cigar box and tilled soil. Full, concentrated and featuring loads of red and black fruit layers, it has a very firm backbone of ripe, grainy tannins and a very long, perfumed finish.” - Lisa Perotti-Brown, Wine Advocate
“From the same fruit source as the early vintages of the Private Reserve, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Chabot Vineyard comes from an estate vineyard planted in the volcanic soils outside of St. Helena. Deep purple-colored with tons of black (and some red) fruits, violets, and spice, it has fabulous purity of fruit, full body, silky tannins, and the freshness and, again, purity, that makes this vintage so compelling. There are 479 cases produced and it’s going to benefit from short-term cellaring.” - Jeb Dunnuck
“Lovely aromas of blackberry and redcurrant jelly with some smoke and just a hint of bitter chocolate. Ripe and concentrated with a very appealing interplay of creamy richness and moderately dry tannins that build nicely at the finish. Easy to drink right now, but should hold for many years.” - James Suckling
Mark Beringer, great-great-grandson of Beringer Vineyards' founding brother Jacob Beringer, was immersed in wine from the moment he was born in the heart of the Napa Valley. As the direct descendant to Beringer's first winemaker and one of the most iconic family names in Napa Valley wine history, he knew from a young age that he would follow in the footsteps of his ancestors. As a young man he spent many hours working in his family's wine store in Saint Helena, expanding his knowledge of wine as well as gaining an appreciation for wines outside of the famous region he has always called home.
Chabot Vineyard lies east of the Silverado Trail, just north of the road that leads up Howell Mountain to Bancroft Ranch and Steinhauer Ranch. The chunks of shiny obsidian heavily strewn through its soil reflect the locale, known as 'Glass Mountain.' An underlying layer of pumice and bedrock ensures excellent drainage.
