Tasting Notes

An intense red in color with purple tones, the wine displays flavors of black pepper, clove, and ripe fruit, accented by delicate, savory notes and a vegetal finish. Sweet, well-balanced tannins with good body and persistence. Excellent with braised meats and game roasts, truffles, and aged cheeses.

Scores & Accolades

“The nose is sweet and floral, full of cherries, vanilla and candied oranges, but sanguine, herbaceous undertones provide balance. Cherries hang around on the rich but lively palate, which has hints of copper and chili pepper. Tightly coiled tannins feel ready to spring.” -Danielle Callegari, Wine Enthusiast, November 2023

Winemaking

The grapes are hand-harvested at optimal ripeness. The juice is fermented in small, stainless steel tanks with daily hand punch down, some déléstages (rack-and-return fermentation), and malolactic fermentation in French oak barriques. The resulting wine is deep, rich, and inviting from first glance to last sip.

Vintage

It was an unusual year, starting out very rainy and cold in February and March. Although it somewhat delayed bud break, the quenching rain was welcomed. June and July were ideal, but conditions were quite variable from July 20 to August 23, with sultry heat and frequent afternoon thunderstorms. The last big storm at the end of August was followed by drier conditions that allowed the grapes to reach full maturity. Most of the Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were ready in the second half of September. The fruit was wonderfully fresh and ripe, creating a classic wine full of harmony and balance.
